UCF’s ARC (Automated Retrieval Center) WILL BE READY FOR BOOK INGESTION Dec. 2017 Construction of a four-story ARC (automated retrieval center) is taking place on the Student Union side of the Main Library building. The ARC will house 1.25 million volumes of the library’s print collection, placed in bins three stories high, for retrieval by 5 robotic cranes. Books can be requested with A click of a button from the online catalog. Each volume will be available for pickup in minutes. Transferring books into the ARC will free up space for up to 1,600 additional user seats .

How renovations and book ingestion will affect the Knowledge Commons & Research Services

Knowledge Commons’ current print reference collection downsized by 75%

Beyond WD-40, earplugs, & Excedrin…..

Libanalytics inform staffing Reference desk transactions: July 2016—June 2017 period 67% of transactions are about: locations, machines, supplies, finding books in the stacks 33% of transactions are about: looking up books or articles with provided citations, or catalog and database searches without specific citations

Taking UCF’s Subject Librarian outreach strategies to a new level

Subject Librarian increased mobility Getting out of the noisy renovation environment & working in more harmonious places Lightweight laptops, i-Pads, & cell phones are perfect tools

Getting renovation updates out to our constituencies Library website Social media Subject Librarian newsletters, research guides, instruction classes, & workshops Signage (at library entrance, elevators, restroom stalls…) & flyers Conversations at Faculty & Student Advisory Board meetings
