About the GTA program The program will develop understanding and skills regarding: Teaching Philosophies UQ policies regarding teaching & learning Lesson planning Motivating and engaging with students Managing group dynamics Giving and receiving feedback, including peer observation Assessment, marking, moderation and evaluation Face-to-face teaching and active teaching strategies E-learning and technological aids Case-based and problem-based learning Development of on-line content

About the GTA program Program expectations: Participants will spend at least 2 hours per week engaging in GTA (i.e. modules, mentor meetings, activities). Activities are to be completed by the due date; failure to submit may result in non-completion of the program. Workshops are compulsory and all effort should be made to attend these. GTAs should meet with their mentor for 30 minutes per fortnight, at minimum. GTA 2017 Fantastic Cohort

About the GTA program Benefits: Development of knowledge and skills to advance in participants future teaching careers Award of a Graduate Teaching Assistant Certificate and updating of My Aurion profile Dissemination of names and contact details to all School TLCs and relevant Course Coordinators to encourage GTA employment at a higher level Possibility to apply to become HEA (Higher Education Academy) Associate Fellow (AFHEA)

About the GTA program Who can apply? Applicants should meet the following criteria: Currently enrolled in a PhD or a recent postdoc student (not Honours) at UQ Completed a formal program of tutor training such as Tutors@UQ Considerable experience tutoring, including tutoring organised for Semester 1, 2018 Access to a teaching and learning academic who can be their mentor The time to complete the program (e.g. no long overseas absences; not writing up their thesis).
