WP2: Indoor exposure knowledge management system Arja Asikainen, National Institute for Health and Welfare, Finland INTERA Stakeholder Workshop 18th of November 2011 Brussels

Indoor exposure knowledge management system (KMS) The purpose of the knowledge management system (KMS) is to provide data and information that can be used for modelling exposure levels in indoor environments The objective was to provide easy access to the available information through a freely available internet interface The information and data collected was defined by the needs of INTERA and by the determinants defined in WP1, but also additional information is provided Content of KMS includes data, information on modelling tools and documents on exposure assessment and relevant projects Geographical coverage of information is European countries INTERA Stakeholder Workshop 18th of November 2011 Brussels

Content of the knowledge management system Is based on the review done in WP1 The collected data includes: Measured concentrations in indoor and outdoor environments, on dust, and personal exposure levels. Source emission strengths (mainly building materials at the moment) Housing statistics such as air exchange rates of buildings, floorspaces, building volumes Physiological variables, such as body length, body weight, breathing volumes Time use data of people Indoor:outdoor ratios of pollutants In addition descriptions and links to available modelling tools and links to guidance document and project documents produced in earlier projects are provided INTERA Stakeholder Workshop 18th of November 2011 Brussels

Key features and the technical solutions of KMS The system was built up with the following key features: Easy to use and access Can take in various kind of data and information Possible to update and manage easily All can contribute on the content Technical solution is a Wiki-space (called Opasnet) with a SQL-database (called Opasnet Base) for data storage Opasnet Wiki has been developed during several years, and INTERA KMS was just one of the new additions on it The content of the database can be used by any other system using SQL codes INTERA Stakeholder Workshop 18th of November 2011 Brussels

Sources of information WP1 review report was the main source of information of the exposure concentrations and the descriptions of the available modelling tools Additional data review was performed on articles, documents of previous projects and databases available on internet Information and data collected / measured in HEIMTSA, INDEX, EnVIE, AIRMEX, EXPOLIS, THADE, BUMA, GerES and other projects that INTERA partners are involved in Databases Eurostat, EIS-ChemRisk toolbox, ExpoFacts The main reasons that limits the amount of data are No measured information available Confidentially of information (content of consumer products, use habits information, emission information) INTERA Stakeholder Workshop 18th of November 2011 Brussels

INTERA Stakeholder Workshop 18th of November 2011 Brussels Utilization Collected data is used in the INTERA modelling tool Direct linkage between the database and the tool coming later on Provides easy access to the input data to the users of the tool Can be used by any interested people / projects New content easy to add to reflect upcoming needs http://en.opasnet.org/w/Intera INTERA Stakeholder Workshop 18th of November 2011 Brussels
