1 Task III: Indicator Clearing House
Lot 5: Streamlining of European environmental indicators Indicator Clearing House Agenda item 6 Workshop with indicator owners and users Luxembourg February 2011 Task III: Indicator Clearing House Document drafted by Sabah Nait (EAA Vienna) and Catherine Kesy (KRD) 1

2 Task III: Preparation of ‘Indicator Clearing House’ web-site
Task I: Preparation for streamlining of European environmental indicators Task II: Practical implementation of streamlining of European environmental indicators Task III: Preparation of ‘Indicator Clearing House’ web-site 2

3 The Indicator Clearing House (ICH)
Task III: Preparation of ‘Indicator Clearing House’ web-site –February – December 2011 The Indicator Clearing House (ICH) Development of a presentation concept (“factsheet”) which should be applicable on all European environmental indicators, The concept should try already to take into consideration the requirements of the future ICH (Task III). 3

4 Task III: Preparation of ‘Indicator Clearing House’ web-site –February – December 2011
All initiatives are potentially to be considered for inclusion on the ICH (Europe 2020, Beyond GDP, environmental accounts, etc.), The webpage should be structured by environmental compartment (air, water, …), sector (energy, agriculture, …) and indicator set (SDI, CSI, …), 4

5 Task III: Preparation of ‘Indicator Clearing House’ web-site –February – December 2011
The webpage should offer various entry points for different target groups, whether policy makers, indicator experts (developers) or other, The factsheets may be split into the 4 sections, each of which would be accessible separately rather than as a single long document, to enable users to access the type of information they are interested in, 5

6 Task III: Preparation of ‘Indicator Clearing House’ web-site –February – December 2011
Ideally, indicator developers should have the possibility to register their project, but actually the whole registration process is Eurostat’s reserved domain and both data and text need to be validated before being put on the website, The main contents will be textual, with links to outside databases (mainly maintained by EEA), 6

7 Task III: Preparation of ‘Indicator Clearing House’ web-site –February – December 2011
Originally, the web page might have been designed as a wiki, mirror page or dedicated section, Finally, it will be a wiki page as part of a dedicated section(cf. Statistics explained). 7

8 Task III: Preparation of ‘Indicator Clearing House’ web-site –February – December 2011
Horizontal navigation: the left-hand part of the page should provide links to other sections of the ICH, as well as other links (e.g. access to reference documents / publications, website contact information, site map etc.), Vertical navigation: some tools including a “search” facility will be installed on top of the page. 8
