How does the environment affect child safety? By: Mott Hall Bronx High School

How safe do children feel in your community? A number of students in our community feel like the community where they are learning is not safe. There are many other dangers in our community like gang violence, car accidents, and pollution. In Moldova the students found out that in their community they suffer from pollution just like we do here in the United States. In Seattle the children feel safe in their school because they have very intense security and it is located in a neighborhood without much crime.

What environmental factors or conditions(man-made) affect child safety in your community? Most people in our community agree that violence affects children’s safety in our community. In Moldova the factor that has the greatest impact on children’s safety in their community is air pollution. In Seattle factors that affect children in their community are weather conditions, traffic, and natural disasters.

How can you help improve child safety in your community? Have more policemen around the community to control gang activity and to stop rapists and robbers Gun control needs to be more enforced because it is important for the children’s safety We can help improve our community by watching out for each other and keeping each other safe We also improve our community by cleaning up parks and helping people who are less fortunate.

How Do Children In Your Community Get To and From School? Some people in New York walk to and from school. Some students take public transportation and some people get driven to school. In Moldova, people take buses and trolley vans to get to and from school In Seattle, students take cars, buses,bikes, and they also walk to and from school.

What (if anything) does the school do to create a safe community ? In Seattle, the school holds safety drills for every kind of natural disaster and all of the teachers are certified in CPR. They have fire alarms, security cameras, defibrillators, and survival supplies in case of an emergency. Some of the staff are in the safety committee so they are very involved in child safety. In Seattle, they are very strict about who come in their school and who goes out of their school. Only some teachers at Mott Hall are certified in CPR. We hold fire drills and lockdown drills.
