Tracking Camera Platform Design Review Presentation October 14, 2004

Introduction Marty

Today’s Presentation Who we are What we are doing Where will it be used When will it be completed How are we going to do it

Our Team Martin Roeder Team Leader Software Design Image Processing

Our Team David Recktenwald Mechanical Systems Package Construction Website Manager

Our Team Mirko Acamovich Component Selection Power Supply Design PCB Design

Our Team Ananth Mohan Interfacing Frame Capture Image Processing

Overview What is it? What does it do? Camera platform with pan and tilt motion What does it do? Detects foreign objects using IR images Adjusts platform to track objects Has manual override control using a joystick Sends start/stop VCR signals

Overview Where will it be used? When is it going to be done? Medium level security for indoor surveillance When is it going to be done? 10/21/04 - PCB 11/23/04 - Final Build 12/07/04 - Final Presentation How are we going to do this? Very Carefully

Packaging Design Dave

Packaging Design Packaging must be sturdy, yet simple Camera consists of six major physical components to deal with: Servo Motors (2) Camera Video Capture Card Rabbit Microcontroller Power Supply

Packaging Design Packaging will be split into two separate pieces Camera Mount: a thin mount made up of aluminum brackets holding the two servo motors and camera Circuit Box: a small aluminum box that will hold the printed circuit board (which will contain the microcontroller, video capture card, and power supply) This allows the camera portion to be small and lightweight, which is preferable in

Camera Mount Made of 0.25” thickness sheet aluminum Two brackets for handling of pan/tilt movement Bottom bracket will be mounted to pan motor and will hold tilt motor Top bracket will be mounted to tilt motor and will hold infrared camera

Circuit Box Made of 0.25” thickness sheet aluminum Will be just larger than printed circuit board Holes will be drilled in bottom for brass standoff screws Heat dissipation should not be an issue due to usage of aluminum.

Camera B&W CCD Camera 4 Rear Connections 1/3” CCD Sensor, 420 TVL Resolution 4 Rear Connections 12V DC GND Video Out Audio Out RCA cable to uCFG Image Capture Board via PCB Provides NTSC continuous video feed to uCFG RCA cable directly to VCR/TV for live/recorded audio

uCFG Image Capture Video In from Camera Power (5V), GND etc. from PCB NTSC composite analog video channel (only using 1 of 4) Power (5V), GND etc. from PCB LVTTL serial UART interface with Rabbit via PCB UART RXD input line (LVTTL +3.3V) UART TXD output line (LVTTL +3.3V) Trigger Input for Frame Capture from Rabbit via PCB LVTTL +3.3V Composite Analog Video Out to TV for Live Viewing Image Transfer via Serial UART 115.2 kbps transfer rate ~3 frames/sec desired  3840 byte image size (64X60) Low Resolution sufficient for image processing requirements B&W (Y Luma) transfer only

Rabbit 3100 Rabbit 3000 micro at 29.4 MHz, +3.3V Receives still image frames from uCFG on serial UART lines (Serial Port D) ~3 frames/sec, 115.2 kbps, ~4 KB/frame Sufficient RAM (500KB) to store still frames – ‘before’, ‘after’, subtraction image, initialization image Drives servo motors via PWM lines (Port E) Drives Infra-Red Transmitter to signal VCR via Serial Port C Joystick Interface via Port B, E to DB15 Connector

Servo Motors Joystick Infrared Transmitter Driven by Rabbit Port E 5V and GND connections to PCB Driven by Port E (PWM) from Rabbit Control Platform Motion Joystick Connected via DB15 connector to Rabbit (Ports B, E) Joystick uses 8 pins Used for manual override, System Control Infrared Transmitter Driven by Rabbit Port E Signals VCR Recording

Infrared Interfacing 38 - 40 kHz carrier signal Information signal from microcontroller Depending on format of receiver, tie the two signals to an AND or NAND gate. Output of gate goes to LED. Only two functions needed: Record, Stop.
