1 Camera Component Selection Rationale:
Camera Module – OmniVision 6620 Color Camera Module - Wanted a small resolution so we could send data and perform calculations as quickly as possible, while still keeping a recognizable image - Wanted monochrome in order to decrease the image size, but no monochrome module was available. The 6620 has a mode where you can read in the luminescence (one byte per pixel) which is equivalent to monochrome - Wanted a small camera and a recognizable serial interface - Wanted a camera with large amounts of documentation and data sheets

2 Microcontroller Microcontroller – Freescale MC9S12XDP512
- Needed a large amount of memory to store image data, has bytes of internal RAM - Needed an I2C interface to communicate with the camera - Needed a large number of I/O pins and a few PWM, this one has 112 pins, 91 possible I/O, 16 possible PWM - Needed a microcontroller with built in RTI in order to run a clock system for time stamps

3 Other Components Servo Motors – Pan and tilt platform movements needed, 5V if possible LCD Display – Timestamp information only, small display will work, 5V if possible Pushbuttons – Needed for LCD control and power on/off Laser Pointer – Small, lightweight, 5V if possible

4 CAD Drawing

5 PCB Layout
