E3 – Two discussions L1 – One formal discussion based on an unfamiliar topic and one informal discussion based on a familiar topic. L2 - One familiar topic of presentation and a discussion based on an unfamiliar topic. Both must be no longer than 30 minutes.

Practice assessments We have several practise assessments for you to have a go at Dates: when you are ready!

Which level will you be taking? This will depend on the diagnostics you have sat at your interview your prior achievements and which level you need

How do we communicate? In your groups, write some different ways in which we communicate with each other Use the paper available Are they EFFECTIVE forms of communication? As you complete this task, I will speak to you all individually.

With your list… Divide them into: Speaking and listening Reading Writing (some may fir into more than one)

Miscommunication Write about a time where communication has been lost or misunderstood Try to write at least a paragraph It does not need to be true! Remember to proofread- I will help you with this if needed

The power of the English language English is very powerful There are many words in English which have the same or similar meanings. These are called SYNONYMS What type of book would you find a list of these words in?

Divide your page into four columns Big (huge, enormous…) Small (tiny…) Good (amazing…) Bad (horrible…) Think of as many synonyms as you can!

With these words… Describe a place using some of these words. Eg: A town A room A country An object The choice is yours! Try to use complete sentences and joining words where you can.

Reflect How do you feel about studying English this year? What do you feel you need to work on in these sessions? Do you feel comfortable working in your group? Try to write a paragraph, or in complete sentences.
