UK TECHNICAL SOLUTIONS INTERNATIONAL Safety Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) Practice Preparation for Lockout or Tagout (LOTO) Make a survey to locate and identify all isolating devices to be certain which switch(s), valve(s) or other energy-isolating devices apply to the equipment to be locked or tagged out. (Line diagrams will always denote lockout points) More than one energy source (electrical, mechanical, or others) may be involved. Consult the written, machine- specific lockout procedure for the particular machine or equipment being locked or tagged out. Power Training Systems Simulator (Hard Desk) - APT- PE10

UK TECHNICAL SOLUTIONS INTERNATIONAL Safety Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) Practice Sequence of Lockout or Tagout System Procedures Notify all affected employees that a lockout or tagout system is going to be utilised and the reason thereof. The authorised employee shall know the type and magnitude of energy that the machine or equipment utilises and shall understand the hazards thereof. If the machine or equipment is operating, shut it down by the normal stopping procedure (depress stop button, open toggle switch, etc.) Power Training Systems Simulator (Hard Desk) - APT- PE10

UK TECHNICAL SOLUTIONS INTERNATIONAL Safety Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) Practice Operate the switch, valve, or other energy-isolating device(s) so that the equipment is isolated from its energy source(s). Stored energy (such as that in springs, elevated machine members, rotating flywheels, hydraulic systems, and air, gas, steam, or water pressure, etc.) must be dissipated or restrained by methods such as repositioning, blocking, bleeding down, etc. After ensuring that no personnel are exposed, and as a check on having disconnected the energy sources operate any switches or controls associated with the equipment. Power Training Systems Simulator (Hard Desk) - APT- PE10

UK TECHNICAL SOLUTIONS INTERNATIONAL Safety Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) Practice If the equipment may be operated from a remote station or computer control system the authorised employee MUST verify that the equipment will not start remotely. CAUTION: Return operating control(s) to “neutral” or “off” position after the test. The equipment is now locked out and/or tagged out. Power Training Systems Simulator (Hard Desk) - APT- PE10

UK TECHNICAL SOLUTIONS INTERNATIONAL Safety Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) Practice Practical Exercises Using the single line electrical diagrams you must describe the correct LOTO procedure required to safely isolate the identified equipment and circuits for the purpose of routine maintenance. Each electrical system will require a different procedure. A practical test using real equipment will also be undertaken as the final test of competence. Power Training Systems Simulator (Hard Desk) - APT- PE10

UK TECHNICAL SOLUTIONS INTERNATIONAL Exercise PE10/1 - Isolate the 31kVA transformer at DSS "E" for checking a suspect HV red phase bushing. Objectives: The prospective Authorised Person shall know, given the Fault Level and current breaking capacity of the isolating devices on the network, the hazards that could be when present when switching. They must operate the circuit breaker switch, isolator, or other energy-isolating device(s) so that the equipment is totally isolated from its energy source(s). If the plant or equipment is operating, isolate it with the correct switching operation of circuit breakers and switches on the Electrical networks. They shall secure these with locks and correct signage. Power Training Systems Simulator (Hard Desk) - APT- PE10

UK TECHNICAL SOLUTIONS INTERNATIONAL Exercise PE10/1 - Isolate the 315kVA transformer at DSS "E" for checking a suspect HV red phase bushing. Based on the single line network diagram you must generate a work order to isolate the 315kVA transformer at DSS "E" to allow an engineer to check a suspect red phase bushing on the HV side of the transformer. Use the print button below to generate a drawing that can be marked up with the correct isolation sequence for the transformer. Print Power Training Systems Simulator (Hard Desk) - APT- PE10
