Lesson 2: SBP Review Lesson 2: SBP Review February 2017 During this lesson, you will review content covered in SBP 201: Intermediate Small Business Programs Part A, which provides the foundational knowledge for the activities you’ll complete in this course. The review will be a helpful way to recollect content and apply it later in a variety of practical activities during the remainder of the course. The practical activities are a reflection of what you are likely to encounter in the workplace as Small Business Professionals. Lesson 2: SBP Review

SBP 201 Learning Objectives Review Describe the importance of small business in the acquisition process. Apply small business programs and initiatives to support the decision making process. Summarize the professional competencies for the small business professional that increases opportunities for success. Describe key small business professional activities during the acquisition planning phase. Advise the acquisition team of small business elements of the solicitation. Describe Small Business Professional activities during the source selection process. Determine methods for addressing post award small business issues. This lesson will use games, classroom discussion, and activities to refresh knowledge on the SBP 201 module terminal learning objectives listed on the slide. Activity 2.1: Trivia Challenge SBPs must be able to: Use knowledge gained in SBP 201 to respond to questions and scenarios on the acquisition process as it applies to small business The Trivia Challenge game offers you a fun, fast-paced way to review what you learned during SBP 201. Activity 2.2: SBP Review Briefings (1 of 2) Activity Context: Create a 10-minute presentation that reviews key points from SBP 201 modules for an assigned lesson Each lesson in this course includes activities that draw from the content introduced in SBP 201 and/or is new information being presented in the course. The SBP 201 review presentations will provide a review of that content and make sure that the key points needed to support completion of the activities in each SBP 202 lesson are understood. Teams will develop their presentations now and make their review presentations at the beginning of their assigned lesson. One aspect of being an effective SBP is the ability to communicate well verbally. Each student will be expected to deliver some portion of the presentation. Activity 2.2: SBP Review Briefings (2 of 2) Review assigned SBP 202 lesson Identify appropriate key points from SBP 201 module summaries Using the guiding questions, create a 5–7-slide,10-minute presentation that reviews key points needed to support completing the SBP 202 lesson activity Present at the beginning of your assigned lesson during the course The purpose of the activity is to prepare a review presentation covering the key content from SBP 201 that is the foundation for the activities in your assigned lesson in this course. For example, the review presentation covering SBP 201 Module 4: Acquisition Planning will provide a refresher for knowledge that will be used to accomplish the activities in SBP 202 Lesson 4: Acquisition Strategies. You have 60 minutes to prepare a 5–7-slide PowerPoint presentation, using the provided PowerPoint template. Each presentation should be about 10 minutes, plus five minutes for questions. You should review the content of their assigned 202 lesson to determine what 201 content should be presented. The team’s assigned lesson in the Instructor Guide to ensure that the team identifies the appropriate SBP 201 module content to present. Questions are provided with the Student Instructions to help guide development of the presentation. You should use the SBP 201 module summaries content provided as prework reading for SBP 202 to aide them in developing their presentations. During Lesson 6 you: Evaluate two offerors Small Business Participation Commitment Documents Evaluate two offerors small business past performance Assess a small business subcontracting plan Lesson 7 will focus on post-award activities, including preparing a source selection debriefing, preparing for a post-award orientation, monitoring small business subcontracting performance, drafting an agency recommended response to HQ SBA Ombudsman Inquiries, and analyzing CPARS small business performance entries. Finally, Lesson 8 is a Capstone activity that gives you an opportunity to develop a presentation you can use on the job to educate acquisition personnel about the critical role SBPs play in the acquisition process.
