Blood Pressure pg 9 copy the underline parts to the boxes Is the pressure of the blood against the walls of the blood vessels If the force of the blood flow is often high, the arteries get stretched beyond its healthy limit and damage occurs. Blood pressure is written as a ratio. Source: http://www.heart.org/HEARTORG/Conditions/HighBloodPressure/AboutHighBloodPressure/About-High-Blood-Pressure_UCM_002050_Article.jsp

Blood Pressure Uncontrolled high blood pressure (HBP) can injure or kill you. It's sometimes called "the silent killer" because HBP has no symptoms, so you may not be aware that it's damaging your arteries, heart and other organs. Possible health consequences that can happen over time when high blood pressure is left untreated include: Damage to the heart and coronary arteries, including heart attack, heart disease, congestive heart failure, aortic dissection and atherosclerosis (fatty buildups in the arteries that cause them to harden) Stroke Kidney damage Vision loss Memory loss Fluid in the lungs Srouce: http://www.heart.org/HEARTORG/Conditions/HighBloodPressure/WhyBloodPressureMatters/Why-Blood-Pressure-Matters_UCM_002051_Article.jsp

Blood Pressure Systolic The top number, which is also the higher of the two numbers, measures the pressure in the arteries when the heart beats (when the heart muscle contracts). Diastolic The bottom number, which is also the lower number, measures the pressure in the arteries between heartbeats (when the heart muscle is resting between beats and refilling with blood). Systolic – Heart pumps 120 or lower Diastolic– Heart rests 80 or lower Resting Heart Rate Normal 60-100

Heart Disease More die of heart disease than of AIDS and all cancers combined. Women account for just over half of the total heart disease deaths in the United States each year, although many women continue to think of heart disease as a man’s disease Heart disease is the number one cause of death for both men and women in the United States, claiming approximately 1 million lives annually. http://www.theheartfoundation.org/heart-disease-facts/heart-disease-statistics/
