Why use MyNCBI tools? “As of July 23, 2010, PD/PIs will be unable to enter citations manually into eRA Commons and must use My NCBI’s My Bibliography tool to manage their professional bibliographies.” SciENcv is not currently required, but useful to create the Biosketch which is required

Why use MyNCBI tools? MyBibliography communicates with eRA Commons, PubMed and PMC, and the NIHMS system Allows for automatic tracking of compliance Easier generation of the biosketch

Why use MyNCBI tools? Collect citations into your personal account Properly formats citations for reporting Automatically updates citations with PMCID Ships citation to eRA Commons for progress reporting Allows for automatic tracking of compliance Easier generation of the biosketch

Setting up your MyNCBI account Create an account using your eRA Commons credentials or Link an existing account to eRA Commons http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/ Linking your account is what enables compliance tracking and other automated features Demo: how to create an account using eRA commons credentials; sign in to my account and show how to link an existing account to eRA commons Point out indicator of linkage (eRA commons icon) How to add citations Will automatically add items submitted to NIHMS if award is link to your eRA Commons account Show award view and note different codes Setting up a delegate Edit My Bibliography Settings Delegate’s email address--will get invite--will log in via eRA commons ID If delegate doesn’t have a commons account can use another type of account Can add citations, add grants Possible for one delegate to manage multiple accounts (no limit); or multiple delegates for one account PI/Author collaboration Author can add awards to citations and those will be automatically added to PI’s MyBibliography

SciENcv and the NIH Biosketch SciENcv creates Biosketch that meets NIH specifications New Biosketch format required as of May 2015 Citations from My Bibliography feed into SciENcv http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/ NIH requires a biosketch in a particular format for grant proposals. SciENcv is a tool to help create such biosketches. It is not required that SciENcv is used, but the biosketch is required. SciENcv uses information from MyBibliography, such as citations Demo: Find SciENcv on MyNCBI page Edit mini profile Create new biosketch from existing biosketch Update education/training Update personal statement Update positions and honors Update contributions to science, rearrange with tabs Note about “Include link to complete list of published work in My Bibliography” Update research support (show in next slide) You can only import awards from eRA commons if you are the PI on the award, otherwise you’ll have to list them manually. Create Biosketch – PDF is best if possible, because SciENcv saves metadata with PDF that makes import into grants.gov easier. You won’t have to manually enter info if done this way. Update old NIH Biosketch Click on the large green button to update the Biosketch to the new Biosketch format. SciENcv will duplicate the Biosketch into a new document on the updated format, leaving your old Biosketch intact.
