Focus 3/21 As the Cold War escalated, both sides committed acts viewed by the other as aggressive and/or hostile. This increased tension around the world. Both sides began to produce advanced weapons in order to intimidate the other. The United States and the Soviet Union also used their satellite countries for political and military advantage. Point for Discussion: What was the Cold War? Term to Know: Escalate Critical Lens: Tension increased as both sides tried to influence other countries.
