Geography of Aquitaine Aquitaine is in the south-west part of France along the Atlantic Ocean and Pyrenees mountains and is on the border of Spain.

History Aquitaine has many castles and forts around the area which were built during the struggle between France and England. One of the most notable forts in Aquitaine is Roquetailladea, a massive fort on a rocky cliff rising high above the surrounding estates.

Food The local specialty is Foie gras. A Goose liver plate. Food like crème brulèe also come from Basque origin.

Famous cities The capital city of Aquitaine is Bordeaux and is one of the greatest historic regions of France. And has some amazing 18th century architecture. St Emilion is a small wine-making city with narrow streets and unique underground monolithic church.

Midi-Pyrénées Midi-Pyrénées is on the border of Spain and is in the middle of southwest France. Midi-Pyrénées extends from the wooded hills of the Dordogne, in the north, to the great river valleys of the center and the majestic Pyrénées mountains in the south. It is one of the largest regions in the country.

History The area of Midi-Pyrénées was first part of Aquitaine when under the rule of the Roman Empire, but what split up when the Franks conquered it.

Food. A lot of foods from Midi-Pyrénées are a combination of casseroles of southern France and spicy cooking from Spain. But the area boasts about its fresh products such as it’s mountain French cheese, truffles and walnut oil.

Famous Cities Albi which is know for growing up around orginal Cathedral style buildings, is one of the most beautiful cities in Midi-Pyrénées.
