European Traffic Accidents and Purposed Solutions EU Traffic Accident Problem: 1.300.000 accidents per year 40.000 fatalities 1.700.000 injuries estimated cost of 160 Billion € the psychological damage to the victims and their families cannot even be estimated. The EU Initiative: Information and Communications Technologies for Safe and Intelligent Vehicles aim an reduction of the causalities by 50% of the year 2010. 24th Nov 2003

European Traffic Accidents and Purposed Solutions cont. Causes of accident: it is estimated that more than 95% are cause by human failures, 75% of all accidents definitely due to human failure. The solutions: intelligent vehicles, intelligent infrastructure and telematics services Feasibility: 50% reduction of fatalities between 1970 and 1987 in Germany due to safer cars (todays cars are 4 safer due to ABS, ESP, better impact structure, etc.) while traffic increased by 72%. 24th Nov 2003
