Slow To Anger, Part 2 Pastor Dave Jansen May 7, 2017 Series: Sensible Sensitivity

An offended friend is harder to win back than a fortified city. Proverbs 18:19 (NLT)

Apart from the Word of God, there should be nothing offensive in us

by God to salvation, both Jews and Gentiles, Christ is the power When we preach that Christ was crucified, the Jews are offended and the Gentiles say it’s all nonsense. But to those called by God to salvation, both Jews and Gentiles, Christ is the power of God and the wisdom of God. 1 Corinthians 1:23-24 (NLT)

If I were no longer preaching salvation through the cross of Christ, no one would be offended. Galatians 5:11 (NLT)

Does this offend you? …the very words I have spoken to you are spirit and life…At this point many of his disciples turned away and deserted him. Then Jesus turned to the Twelve and asked, “Are you also going to leave?” (cont’d) John 6:61,63, 66-69 (NLT)

Simon Peter replied, “Lord, to whom would we go? You have the words that give eternal life. We believe, and we know you are the Holy One of God.” John 6:61,63, 66-69 (NLT)

Apart from the Word of God, there should be nothing offensive in us

And the disciples were filled with He said to them, “The Son of Man is going to be delivered into the hands of men. They will kill him, and on the third day he will be raised to life.” And the disciples were filled with grief. After Jesus and his disciples arrived in Capernaum, the collectors of the two-drachma temple tax came to Peter and asked, “Doesn’t your teacher pay the temple tax?” (cont’d) Matthew 17:22-27 (NLT)

“Yes, he does,” he replied. When Peter came into the house, Jesus was the first to speak. “What do you think, Simon?” he asked. “From whom do the kings of the earth collect duty and taxes—from their own children or from others?” “From others,” Peter answered. “Then the children are exempt,” Jesus said to him. “But so that... (cont’d) Matthew 17:22-27 (NLT)

...we may not cause offense, go to the lake and throw out your line. Take the first fish you catch; open its mouth and you will find a four-drachma coin. Take it and give it to them for my tax and yours.” Matthew 17:22-27 (NLT)

A gentle answer turns away wrath but a harsh word stirs up anger. Proverbs 15:1 (NIV)

But Gideon replied, “What have I accomplished compared to you But Gideon replied, “What have I accomplished compared to you? Aren’t even the leftover grapes of Ephraim’s harvest better than the entire crop of my little clan of Abiezer? God gave you victory over Oreb and Zeeb, the commanders of the Midianite army. What have I accomplished compared to that?” When the men of Ephraim heard Gideon’s answer, their anger subsided. Judges 8:2-3 (NLT)

1 Peter 3:15-16 (NLT) If someone asks about your hope as a believer, always be ready to explain it. But do this in a gentle and respectful way. Keep your conscience clear. Then if people speak against you, they will be ashamed when they see what a good life you live because you belong to Christ. 1 Peter 3:15-16 (NLT)

Apart from the Word of God, there should be nothing offensive in us

along the path of everlasting life. Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. Point out anything in me that offends you, and lead me along the path of everlasting life. Psalm 139:23-24 (NLT)
