MAKING GOD’S FORGIVENESS MY FORGIVENESS Matthew 18:21-22

Vs 21-22 “Then Peter came to Him and said, Lord, how often shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? Up to seven times? Jesus said to him, I do not say to you, up to seven times, but up to seventy times seven.”

Context - Vs. 15-35 "If your brother sins against you, go and show him his fault, just between the two of you. If he listens to you, you have won your brother over…this is how my heavenly Father will treat each of you unless you forgive your brother from your heart."

Matthew 6:9-15 Please Turn In Your Bibles Matthew 5:43-48 "Therefore you are to be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect.”

Mark 11:25-26 "Whenever you stand praying, forgive, if you have anything against anyone, so that your Father who is in heaven will also forgive you your transgressions. But if you do not forgive, neither will your Father who is in heaven forgive your transgressions."

Exodus 34:5-7 “Then the LORD passed by in front of him and proclaimed, "The LORD, the LORD God, compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in lovingkindness and truth; who keeps lovingkindness for thousands, who forgives iniquity, transgression and sin…

…yet He will by no means leave the guilty unpunished, visiting the iniquity of fathers on the children and on the grandchildren to the third and fourth generations.”

John 3:14-16 “As Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness (Numbers 21:4-9), even so must the Son of Man be lifted up; so that whoever believes will in Him have eternal life. For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.”

1 John 4:10 “In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins.”

Psalm 32:5 “I acknowledged my sin to You, And my iniquity I did not hide; I said, "I will confess my transgressions to the LORD"; And You forgave the guilt of my sin.” Iniquity: “evil in character”, “to be bent” Transgression: “rebellion” Sin: “an offense”

“Iniquity” Romans 5:12 “Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, and in this way death came to all men, because all sinned.” Romans 5:8 “But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”

Vs. 21 “Lord, how often shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him?”

1 John 2:1-2 “My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous; and He Himself is the propitiation for our sins; and not for ours only, but also for those of the whole world.”

Luke 23:34 Then Jesus said, "Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they do.”

John 14:15-18 “If you love Me, you will keep My commandments. I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may be with you forever; that is the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it does not see Him or know Him, but you know Him because He abides with you and will be in you. "I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you.”

Ezekiel 36:27 “I will put My Spirit within you and cause you to walk in My statutes, and you will be careful to observe My ordinances.”

Romans 5:5 “…the love of God has been poured out within our hearts through the Holy Spirit who was given to us.” 1 Corinthians 13:4-8 “Love is patient, love is kind…it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs…”

Galatians Please Turn In Your Bibles 2:20 “The life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God…” 5:19-22 – The Flesh and the Spirit

Romans 8:12-14 “So then, brethren, we are under obligation, not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh--for if you are living according to the flesh, you must die; but if by the Spirit you are putting to death the deeds of the body, you will live. For all who are being led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God.”

Ephesians 4:30-32 “Do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. Let all bitterness and wrath and anger and clamor and slander be put away from you, along with all malice. Be kind to one another, tender-hearted, forgiving each other, just as God in Christ also has forgiven you.”

Colossians 3:12-13 “So, as those who have been chosen of God, holy and beloved, put on a heart of compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience; bearing with one another, and forgiving each other, whoever has a complaint against anyone; just as the Lord forgave you, so also should you.”

Vs 21-22 “Then Peter came to Him and said, Lord, how often shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? Up to seven times? Jesus said to him, I do not say to you, up to seven times, but up to seventy times seven.” Matt 18:35 "This is how my heavenly Father will treat each of you unless you forgive your brother from your heart."
