Finding Discounts A clothing store is having a 10% off sale Finding Discounts A clothing store is having a 10% off sale. If Angela wants to buy a sweater whose regular price is $20.00, how much will she pay for the sweater after the discount? Step 1: To find the amount of the discount you need to find 10% of $20.00. Step 2: Find 10% of $20 by multiplying 0.10 • 20. 10% of 20 = 0.10 • $20.00 = $2.00 The discount will be $2.00. To find out how much she will pay after the discount you need to subtract the discount from the regular price. $20.00 – $2.00 = $18.00 Angela will pay $18.00 for the sweater.

Step 1: The tip will be 18% of 7.85. Finding Tips Ben’s dinner bill is $7.85. He wants to leave a tip that is 18% of the bill. How much is his total with the tip? Step 1: The tip will be 18% of 7.85. Step 2: 18% of 7.85 = .18 x 7.85 = 1.413 1.413 rounds to 1.41 because it is money Step 3: Ben should leave $1.41 as a tip. Step 4: To find the total with the tip you add the tip to the bill. $7.85 + $1.41 = $9.26.

Finding Sales Tax Ann is buying a dog bed for $29. 75 Finding Sales Tax Ann is buying a dog bed for $29.75. The sales tax rate is 7%. How much will the total cost of the dog bed be? Step 1: The tax will be 7% of $29.75. Step 2: 7% of 29.75 = .07 x 29.75 = 2.0825 Round 2.0825 to 2.08 because we are talking about money The sales tax is $2.08. Add this amount to $29.75 to compute the total cost of the dog bed. $29.75 + $2.08 = $31.83 Ann will pay $31.83 for the dog bed.
