Presentation transcript:

Landforms Students will be able to synthesize how land forms affect culture by analyzing a geographic dictionary.

Warm Up: List three factors that influence culture.

Homework: Using your geographic dictionary (in your text book pgs H10-11) classify each of the listed land features into one of the two categories. Land Features Water Features

Impact of natural features Prior to modern technology civilizations depended on natural resources in order to survive. Civilization: a society in an advanced state of social development (e.g., with complex legal and political and religious organizations)

What is needed to survive? Turn and talk: What basic needs do humans have?

Got to make do with what you have Early civilizations had to adapt to make use of the resources they had available. Adapt: to conform oneself to new or different conditions; "We must adjust to the bad economic situation"

Land Features There are various land and water forms.

Work Time: Using your Geographic dictionary complete your groups task. Group A: Identify three land features and three water features. Group B: Using the picture and the definition compare and contrast two water features and two land features. Group C: Imagine you are creating a civilization. Which two features would you want to have near by. Explain why.

Quick Write What is an advantage to living in a forest?

Exit Slip: What is one thing you learned today. OR One thing I still do not understand.
