2 Warm Up: Explain why you think the founding fathers of the United States chose to have the government be a democracy?

3 Homework Read pages 28-31 answer questions 1 and 2 on page 31. ALL PARTS!

4 Economy and economics: Economy: The way a country manages its money and resources (such as workers and land) to produce, buy, and sell goods and services. Goods are products like cars, computers, or even corn. Services are duties performed by one person for another, such as teaching and transportation.

5 Turn and Talk: In what way does the economy effect your life?

6 Quality of Life Quality of life: personal satisfaction (or dissatisfaction) with the cultural or intellectual conditions under which you live

7 Quality of life factors Money, environment... Turn and talk: What other items affect your quality of life?

8 Developed vs. Developing Developed Country: A country that has a strong economy and a high quality of life. Developing country: A country that generally has a less productive economy and a lower quality of life.

9 Work time Group A: Order the countries from least developed to most developed using the information from the chart. Group B: Interpret the chart and decide which two factors are the best in deciding if a county is developed or developing. Group C: What connection can be made between the life expectancy of a person and the status of a country?

10 Quick Write What do you think the most important thing a developing country needs as they strive to become developed? Explain why this is your stance.

11 Work Time: Group A: List two traits of a developing country and two traits of a developed country. Group B:Compare and contrast on a t-chart the differences between a developed and developing country. Group C: Does a country have to be democratic in order to be developed? Explain why or why not?
