Today’s Goal October 2, 2012 How does the new government (after ratification) get started? What need to be prioritized? Who will lead?

Precedent A precedent is an original act. It is an example that can and/or will be followed. To set a Precedent Who was the first President of the US? Would he be in a position to set precedents?

Precedent What were some of the precedents that Washington set? Inaugural Address Creation of Cabinet What is the Cabinet? Delegating Executive Authority to close advisors (cabinet members)

The First Cabinet

Establishing Priorities What were the MOST important issues facing the new country? How to provide the new government stability? How can that be achieved? What did they (Washington and the Cabinet) have the legal means to do? What does this new Constitution allow for and prohibit?

Hamilton had a Plan Most important issue was financial well being DEBT! Power to Tax Ability of the Government to finance and pay off Debt Prominence of the new FEDERAL government

Washington favors Hamilton and his ideas Hamilton will be the leading advisor to G.W. Together they will push Hamilton’s plan to strengthen the American economy The questions we will need to address tomorrow night will be – is it all legal?
