“Federalist era”- Washington and Adams presidencies What precedents were set as the nation begins? Different visions of America: the birth of political parties What issues divided early America? HW: Jefferson vs. Hamilton

4 RANK: ISSUE: GW movie Foreign affairs: Align the US with foreign countries (get allies) Organize the Executive Branch/ Pick advisors (nothing mentioned in the Constitution except a vice-president). Set up a Supreme Court (Constitution set up courts but is vague on the details). Debt from Revolution: Have states pay off their debts Territory: Acquire more land in the US Establish law and order: Be prepared to put down rebellions (no more Shays’s Rebellions) Follow the Constitution: follow it closely or use the elastic clause to expand power and get things done? National Bank: Create a national bank to solidify the economy French Revolution: Should the US help or stay out of it (pick one)? Wild Card – pick one other issue you would want to resolve as the country’s first president.
