WPP SG Telecon Agenda for 19 Feb 2004 February 2004 WPP SG Telecon Agenda for 19 Feb 2004 Charles R. Wright Azimuth Systems charles_wright@azimuthsystems.com C. Wright, Azimuth Systems

Agenda Appointment of telecon secretary February 2004 Agenda Appointment of telecon secretary Summary of events at 802.11 Vancouver meeting Email reflector issues Timing of PAR/5 Criteria approval and procedures within 802.11 PAR/5 Criteria strategies Discussion of scope and purpose for PAR C. Wright, Azimuth Systems

Vancouver Meeting Summary February 2004 Vancouver Meeting Summary Elected temporary Secretary – Stephen Berger Acting Chair presented a review of the IP policy of IEEE an overview of IEEE 802.11 History Review of IEEE 802.11 processes Study Group objectives and outputs Reviewed the objectives of this session 6 Papers were presented 11-04/091r0, 11-04/092r0, 11-04/072r1, 11-03/928r0, 11-03/930r0 Reviewed a PAR and 5 Criteria Document Voted to request authorization of teleconference Ended with a discussion of the philosophy of the group C. Wright, Azimuth Systems

Email Reflector Original reflector: stds-wpp@ieee.org February 2004 Email Reflector Original reflector: stds-wpp@ieee.org Set up under aegis of EMC Society (S. Berger) 802.11 reflector: stds-802-11@ieee.org Requires 802.11 membership to send to it Can be monitored through 802.11 web site 802.11 rules require all SG communication to be through reflector This presents a problem for many of original WPP participants I encourage people to join 802.11! C. Wright, Azimuth Systems

PAR/5 Criteria Procedures and Timing within 802.11 February 2004 PAR/5 Criteria Procedures and Timing within 802.11 PAR/5 Criteria docs are approved at 802 level at EXCOM meetings Held at every 802 plenary (March, July, Nov) PAR/5 Critera docs must be submitted at least 1 month before EXCOM meeting Need to have a PAR/5 Criteria ready by June 16, 2004 Practically speaking, we should have it voted on in the May 802.11 meeting This gives us all of two meetings and many telecons to complete the task C. Wright, Azimuth Systems

Starter PAR, 5 Criteria Documents February 2004 Starter PAR, 5 Criteria Documents Starter documents will be available on 802wirelessworld once I can get a document number C. Wright, Azimuth Systems

Scope and Purpose of WPP? February 2004 Scope and Purpose of WPP? We must choose some subset of the whole spectrum, or we’ll never finish Overall system performance predictions Coverage Capacity System Level Network Variables AP throughput, forwarding rate under load Usage context, application System performance in failover siutations Association speed… Client/AP Device Level Network Variables Single client forwarding rate, latency performance Roaming time, others… Device Ratings Consumer product ratings Application benchmarks, e.g., VoIP, video… Transmission Variables RF path loss Multipath/fading EM environment noise Interference Radio Variables Antenna loading Environmental Host EMC, power variation Device Specifications Receiver sensitivity Transmitter power Antenna pattern DC power consumption Host CPU utilization * An incomplete listing of potential parameters and metrics C.
