Presentation transcript:

Properties of Matter

Matter Stuff that everything is made of

Mass The amount of matter in an object

Volume The amount of space an object takes up

Properties Appearances of an object including mass, volume, magnetism, state of matter, density, solubility, the ability to insulate or conduct heat or electricity.

Classify to group together based on similar traits

Solid A firm or hard substance with no holes or spaces

Liquid Shapeless substance that flows like water and is wet

Gas Can’t be felt with your hand, but it takes the shape of the container

Density Objects that are more dense sink, objects that are less dense float

Magnetism Property of attraction to a magnet

Attract To draw closer to

Insulator Material that slows down or stops electrical energy or heat from flowing

Conductor Material that allows electricity or heat to flow through easily

Solubility The ability of a solid to dissolve in a liquid
