Overview The designer role in CE 4 has been separated into two new roles in CE6: Designer Role Instructor Role The Auditor role has been added as an additional role too.

The Designer Role The designer can: Add content in the section Create Assignments Create Assessments Add tools to the course Create Web links Use the file manager Customise the look and feel of the section The Designer Role The designer can: Add content in the section Create Assignments Create Assessments Add tools to the course Create Web links Use the file manager Customise the look and feel of the section

The Instructor Role The instructor can: present the course manage the course evaluate assignments & assessments change assignment & assessment settings interact with students in the course

The Auditor Role The auditor has the view of the student, but no marks are recorded for auditors.

Announcements Designers can send a tailored announcement to all users with a particular role (e.g. all Students or all TA’s). Designers have the flexibility of choosing where or how announcements will be delivered (e.g. automatic pop-up in the course). Announcements can be created in advance for delivery at a later time.

Who’s Online This feature allows course participants who are logged into their course environment to see who else is logged in at a given time and chat with them. Designers, instructors and students have the option of masking their online status if they do not want to be seen.

Media Library Designers can create a glossary of course terms or create multimedia collections of terms, definitions, or images related to specific course topics. These terms can be automatically hyperlinked to words throughout the course content. Whenever a student clicks on these terms, a window will pop up displaying the “definition” — which can include text, an image, and/or a media file.

Learning Module Specific activities — such as individual assignments or discussion topics — can be included in Learning Modules so that students navigate through them in a defined sequence. The designer can create learning modules and personalise the path students take through these materials.

Web Links The designer can create Web Links in a course and it is automatically added to a comprehensive Web Links page. This gives instructors and students a central place to easily access and review all Web Links added within a course.

Scorm Object Support Instructors can rapidly integrate SCORM content into their courses: This gives new options for incorporating rich content to create dynamic learning experiences for students. When students view SCORM objects in WebCT their activity is tracked. Grades for any assessment or assignment included in the SCORM object are automatically recorded in the WebCT Grade Book.

New Question Types - Combination Multiple Choice

New Question Types - jumbled sentence fill in the blank

New Question Types - true or false

Assignments New Assignment Options: individual assignments group assignments custom assignments, with different instructions for each individual or group receiving the assignment.

Assignments Different response options: responding only with text responding with an attachment responding with a Web link.

Assignments The instructor has the option of returning an assignment to a student or group without a grade but with comments and additional attachments. Students can then resubmit the same assignment. This process can continue iteratively until the instructor determines that the assignment has been completed.

Assignments Ability to Publish Assignment Submissions Instructors, and optionally students, have the ability to publish completed assignment submissions so that the entire class can see them and learn from them.

Calendar The calendar integrates the global calendar into each course. There is a larger scope of internal link options that you can link an entry to.

Discussion Gradable Discussion Topics The designer can create gradable discussions. Instructors can easily: assemble and review a student’s posted messages, review a student’s total participation versus the class average assign a grade to each student that is automatically recorded in the Grade Book.

Chat & Whiteboard Combines Chat and Whiteboard into a single, integrated tool. Designers can create as many chat rooms as required. New options: The ability to mute or deny access or use the new “hand raise” mode to manage participation. The option to upload slides, save slides, and create slide shows using the Whiteboard.

Manage Course The designer can customise the look and feel of the section using the Manage Course options.

File Manager The designer can manage the files in the section using the file manager.

Selective Release The designer can selectively release each component of a learning module. This makes it possible to customise the learning experience for the student.

Selective Release The designer may view what is visible to each student using the member tab.
