A POWERPOINT MADE TO KEEP YOU SAFE ONLINE! ONLINE SAFETY A POWERPOINT MADE TO KEEP YOU SAFE ONLINE!

UNDERSTANDING THE DANGERS ONLINE quiz! You are talking to people online and you’ve been talking to them for a week, you have never met them but you feel like you know them pretty well. One of the girls you’ve been talking to asks for your phone number. what do you do? A. Ask her for her e-mail so you can message her, you don’t want everyone knowing your phone number. B. Tell her you don’t think it’s a good idea to share personal information. C. Give every one your phone number- after all you can never have enough friends. After school you are checking your e-mail and you got a new message and an attachment. The e-mail is from some one you don’t know. What do you do? A. Open it and the attachment because you’re curious what it could be. B. Delete it right away. C. Read the e-mail but don’t open the attachment. Answers. 1. B is the only safe answer. 2. B is the most cyber safe answer. Unknown e-mails can be spam or something much worse.

UNDERSTANDING THE DANGERS ONLINE The internet is great for watching funny videos or tweeting your friends, but there is more to the internet than cat videos . The internet just like anything else has a dangerous side too . The internet allows people to hurt you and humiliate you and you would never know who is doing it. So here are a few ways you can protect your self. Be private . Never give out you school name, phone number, your name or your address to someone you don’t know. Use a simple ,innocent sounding user name like unicorn123. Never open strange emails.

CYBER-SENSE There is no way to tell if you are opening a deadly virus that could attack your computer and rob you of every thing. There are many viruses that can rob you. This is how you can protect your self . Log into email account Read subject lines of message – note attachments Highlight emails from people you don’t know Press delete. There are many people who can hijack your computer. Here are 3 of the most common ways they do. Downloader. A program that downloads files that contain personal information such as tax income, bank numbers; etc.. Keylogger. A software that keeps track of what keys you use and how many times you press those keys to find out things like passwords, or credit card information. Hijacker. A program that can completely take over your computer. This viruses can range from pop-ups to a complete computer take over.

CYBER BULLYING Cyber bullying is a form of bullying that takes place over social media, text message and much more . cyber bullying is in my opinion is the worst form of bullying because once its out there you can’t take it back. Most of the time you don’t know who your cyber bully is because they are behind a screen but some characteristics that all cyber bullies share is that the all feel invisible and invincible. 5 of the most common cyber bullying is flaming - posting mean and nasty messages or pictures about a person. Harassment - continually sending damaging messages to someone. Impersonation – pretending to be someone and then posting thing to make them look bad. Outing- putting a persons personal information on the internet. Gossip- spreading rumors about a person over the internet.

BECOMING A RESPECTFUL INTERNET CITIZEN. The internet is almost like school there are rules that you have to follow . You are an internet citizen and need to act like one. There are 4 different types of internet citizens there is the observer this person is quiet and stays to them self's, the alter-ego this person is different online and says or does things the wouldn’t do in ‘’ real life’’. They think its ok to break the rules, the follower this person thinks because every one is doing it its ok for them to do it as well, the super- citizen this person always does the right thing online and never breaks the rules. When you are on the internet you should always use your manners and never use bad language, you should always be respectful and never rude, use capitals only in the begging of a sentence, never break the law, always be patient and make sure that people know that you are joking.

USING THE INTERNET RESPOSABLY. When using the internet there are a lot of consequences so you should always be responsible when using the internet. When you post thing on a blog , social media etc. you create what is called a cyber-footprint witch is hare and almost impossible to get rid of. Now everyone has made a mistake on the internet and that is ok just as long as you take responsibility for you actions and learn from your mistakes.
