What is Sociology? Sociology is the study of human social behaviour. It is concerned with all group activities: Economic Social Political Religious

What is Sociology? Sociologists study such areas as: bureaucracy community deviant behaviour family social change also such specific problems as crime, divorce, child abuse and substance addiction

What is Sociology? Sociology includes two major social sciences Anthropology The study of human beings, in particular the study of their physical character, evolutionary history, racial classification, historical and present-day geographic distribution, group relationships and cultural history Psychology The science that deals with mental processes and behaviour

What is Sociology? Sociology emerged in the early 19th century The term “sociology” was coined by Auguste Comte (1798-1857) in 1838. Comte hoped to unify all the sciences under sociology. He believed that sociology had the potential to improve society and to direct human activity, including the other sciences. However, sociology did not replace the other sciences. Rather, it has developed a particular niche in the study of social life.
