PANIC: The point at which physiological response overwhelms cognitive functioning

“There are two types of Churches in this country… Those that have had a crisis, And those that are about to”

Better to have a plan you don’t need… Than to need a plan you don’t have. Five minutes before the party begins is not the time to learn how to dance.

Why do we need a Crisis Plan? Mitigate the effects of chaos Stabilizing effect offers coordinated, calm, reasoned response Can be positive ministry response Healthy response to emotional needs Facilitates quicker return to ministry

What is an effective response? Members are trained and practiced Roles are clearly communicated Community resources are involved Quick and accurate accountability Emotional needs are supported

Essential Components of a Crisis Plan Team Members - Including roles and responsibilities Contact Lists – Police, Fire, etc Analysis of Threats – Internal & external Scenarios Prevention Activities – Designed by threat, what to do Specific Security Prevention Activities Evacuation Procedures Response and Communication Recovery Procedures Media Contact & Procedures Documentation & Training
