Do Now Mon 3/3 Get out your homework summaries Character Chart— If you brought in a prop, be prepared to share Character Chart— Select two different colors from the bin Color in all the Montagues (and their servants) in one color, and the Capulets (and their servants) in another Save the back of the sheet until later in the class

Act 1, Scene 1 Shadow puppets! Group Reading Thinking about staging a play Where should people be on stage? How should they move? What do we need to act it out?

EXIT SLIP What did you learn about the family feud? How does it affect the entire town? What more did you learn about the characters that you have been putting on your posters? If you had Shakespeare, Venice, or Elizabethan fashion, what did you learn about your topic from our reading today?

Adding to Our Posters Under each character/picture, write down three words that sum up their characteristics (from the reading or your research)

Poster Share Taking your character sheet with you, go around the room and look at each poster. At each place, jot down one comment or question you have about the characters or settings depicted on the posters. Be prepared to share at least one question when we sit back down in 10 minutes. Staple character sheet into the actor’s notebook

Do Now: Take a stand! March 5 You believe in soul mates. It takes a while before you can know someone well enough to really love them. Friends should die for each other. It's better to die than to be separated forever from your true love.

What do the character’s think of love? Groups of Two/Three: Jenn/Jonathan Crystal/Abijah/ Malik Kyara/Chris Nazjae/Elizabeth Kevin/Cheyenne Kaitlyn/Sabryna Jason/Jorge Alex/Emani Angelica/Raymundo/Brenden

What do they character’s think? Translate small words! Re-order the sentences Character Lines Conclusion Romeo 1.1.195-199 “This love that thou hast shown Doth add more grief to too much mine own. Love is a smoke made with the fume of sighs; Being purged, a fire sparkling in lovers’ eyes; Being vexed, a sea nourished with loving tears.” Benvolio 1.1.235-236 1.2.47-48 “By giving liberty unto thine eyes. Examine other beauties” “Tut man, one fire burns out another’s burning; One pain is lessened by another’s anguish.” Paris 1.2.12 “Younger than she are happy mothers made.” Paris thinks marriage is good, no matter what age. Get the Gist!

Let’s Discuss: Then, pick one of these questions to answer in an exit slip. What is the effect of having such a variety of experiences, feelings and attitudes about love and marriage in one play? What are some complications that might arise because of these different view points? In addition to the feud, what are some other problems the lovers will encounter? Why did Shakespeare put hate & fighting in the same Act as all of these discussions about love?
