Justification Freedom of Association is one of the core labour standards provided by the ILO Convention 87 Joining a teachers’ union is every teacher’s responsibility in Malaysia, as stated in The Teaching Profession Code of Ethics Total population of teachers in Melaka is about 13,000 but only about 8,000 teachers are organized

Target Groups Polytechnic College teachers Matriculation College teachers Community Colleges Teachers National Primary School teachers State Religious Primary School teachers – majority are contract teachers

Objectives At the end of this project, NUTP Melaka will be able to ensure that i) at least 90% of the teachers in these institutions are members of the union

Key Outputs NUTP will be able to produce active representatives in these institutions

Activities Training for school representatives Dialogue with teachers from the targeted institutions Meeting with school representatives

Training of School Representatives Activity 1 Training of School Representatives Objectives: To ensure that they are active in promoting unionism in their schools To provide services to members in their schools To represent the union in distribution / collections informations in their schools

School Representatives Training Program Date : 2 – 5 June 2010 Place : Langkasuka Hotel, Langkawi Island, Kedah Participants : School Representatives (80 person) Registration Fees : RM80 per person Budget : RM18,000

Dialogue with teachers Activity 2 Dialogue with teachers Objectives : To help members in solving their problems – service matters, insurance and union To disseminate informations to members To promote fellowship between members and leaders

Dialogue with teachers Date : July, September and November Duration : 8.30 am – 12.30 pm Place : School Hall ( various districts) Participants : Open to all NUTP members in Melaka ( max. 250 members ) Budget : RM2000

Meeting with school representatives Activity 3 Meeting with school representatives Objectives : To update them with these latest informations regarding service matters, insurance and union policies To listen and provide assistance in problem soving at school level

Meeting with school representatives Date : 1 Saturday of July, September and November 2010 Duration : 9.00 am – 12.30 pm Place : NUTP Melaka Meeting Room Participants : All Schools Representatives Budget : RM2,000

Main Inputs Organizer : NUTP Melaka ( Membership Bureau ) Speakers : Main Office Bearer NUTP (HQ and Melaka Branch), PSD and State Education Officers, Insurance Agents (GE) Finance : All to be financed by the NUTP Melaka (RM25,000)
