Doing things differently – Why Project Based Learning? Exam results alone will not achieve the learning experience or interest and engagement we would hope to see. What does this mean?

Project Based Learning (PBL) A summary of research on PBL from the Centre of Excellence in Leadership and Learning (June 2009), would state that ‘overall the research on PBL reports positive outcomes related to student learning in the areas of content, knowledge, collaborative skills, engagement, motivation, critical thinking and problem solving skills! (All utilising the ‘higher order’ thinking skills identified by Bloom (Bloom’s Taxonomy).

Project Based Learning What if….? Learning is relevant, topical, interesting and engaging Caters for the needs and interests of the learner Encourages learners to take responsibility for their own learning What differences would we see?

The Novus ENiGMA Enrichment Calendar The Calendar has been created by the i-Media class at HMP Risley and shows planned ENiGMA activities from January – December 2017.

What does ENiGMA offer our Novus colleagues? The ENiGMA Moodle site offers teaching colleagues an increasing number of high-quality English and maths resources available to download and adapt for individual use. Updates from useful websites, and training offers from ETF, and Awarding Body information and advice. A bi-monthly newsletter/bulletin showcasing and sharing good practice across regions. The opportunity to enter topic based competitions and mini-projects that offer sharing good practice opportunities at Mini Conferences.

ENiGMA Projects and Competitions The ENiGMA National Poetry Competition The Lemn Sissay workshop offered practitioners the opportunity to learn how to deliver simple poetry exercises The poetry competition offered poetry and football books as prizes (donated by the National Football Museum) We made poetry booklets of the winning poems and the NFM Poet in Residence, Paul Cookson, judged the competition. The winning poems are exhibited at the National Football Museum in Manchester

ENiGMA Partnership Work – The National Football Museum We purchased ‘active learning’ maths and football resources from the National Football Museum and the training to use the resources for our Novus practitioners. We worked together to create a ‘National Fair Play Day’ We worked together to promote English speaking and listening/communication by encouraging our Novus establishments to invite visiting footballers, sports people to join debates and discussions to promote PD (Football and: racism, sexism, gambling, fashion, inequality, homophobia, etc.

ENiGMA and Personalised Learning… According to the National Education Technology Plan, developed by the US Department of Education, personalised learning means ‘adjusting the pace (individualisation), adjusting the approach (differentiation) and connecting to the learners interests and experiences’.

ENiGMA and Personalised Learning… Personalisation, in theory is broader than just individualisation or differentiation, in that it allows the learners a degree of choice about learning. How do we ensure our approach through our ENiGMA projects and events, allows the opportunity for personal interest and individual choices?

ENiGMA Research Work Sunderland University – ENiGMA has been awarded a bursary from the ETF to carry out research in to the impact of ENiGMA

We welcome
