WELCOME TO GRADE SIX

WE HAVE HAD A WONDERFUL START TO THE YEAR Emphasis on respect Ourselves Classmates Staff School community Students are all encouraged to put forth their very best effort. Students are encouraged to attempt to solve their problems independently. Catholic values are integrated within every aspect of our school day.

Classroom Expectations… We have written our own classroom creed! This helps us to work together to remember how we treat ourselves and others.

2016-17 CLASSROOM CREED In our class, we… Raise our hands for a turn to speak in the group. Act safely. Are in control of our bodies. Keep our areas clean and tidy. Own our behaviour. Are on task. Are truthful. Treat people how we would like to be treated. Accept everyone for who they are. Help others. Only take and use what belongs to us. Are proactive. Recycle things that can be recycled. Use our walking feet unless asked to run. Begin with the end in mind. Put first things first. Respect our classmates and our school. Think win-win. Seek first to understand, then to be understood. Think before we act. Keep comments polite and respectful. Synergize. Give each other time and space to learn. Sharpen the saw.

COMMUNICATION Regular communication between home and school is extremely important. We do not have a formal spelling program in grade 6. Spelling skills are taught and reinforced through regular mini-lessons, conferences, projects and daily word work. Spelling:

CLASSROOM PARTIES Halloween Valentine’s Day Christmas End of year Please watch for upcoming events in the classroom newsletter!

BIRTHDAYS Birthdays will be acknowledged in class and announced on broadcast. Birthdays that occur in July and August were acknowledged in our classroom on their half- birthdays, in January and February. Please feel free to bring in treats for your child’s special day. I just ask that you let me know before hand that something is coming. Parents, please provide the necessary plates, forks and napkins. Again, be mindful of allergies and the easier to distribute the better.

WATER BOTTLES Your child is encouraged to bring a water bottle to class. Only water, no juice or pop or flavoring, will be permitted in these containers. They are encouraged to take these home regularly to be cleaned.

SCHOLASTIC BOOK ORDERS Book orders will be sent out once a month. You are not under any obligation to order each month but please take a look as there are many wonderful books available at excellent prices. By ordering, it also provides the opportunity to earn books for the classroom. Please send the order form with your child’s name clearly marked on it and exact cash. Please note the due date at the top of the page.
