Art Director Auxiliary Level Eartha Hubbell Fashion 105

Duties ~An art director is an important role in all of the entertainment and arts industries because they are in charge of the overall visual appearance and artistic styles used for a magazine, photo shoot, or ad campaign. Art directors are responsible for coming up with compelling ad ideas, campaigns, and design layouts. They also manage the creative team and coordinate with the editorial team about photo shoots, styles, and deadlines.

Requirements ~Computer skills and knowledge of industry standard computer equipment. ~The ability to work as part of a team and under pressure. ~Extreme knowledge of the fashion industry and current trends/styles. ~Great communication skills, both verbal and written. ~Imaginative power and the ability to experiment and take risks. ~A thorough understanding of photography, typography, and printing.

Education/Training ~May require a bachelor’s degree in graphic design, art, or a related field. An excellent and well-rounded portfolio however, could be more important than formal education for this job. ~Must have at least 4-6 years of experience in art or design.

Salary ~ The salary for an art director can vary from $50,000-$100,000 depending on skills, experience, location, and the level of the business/company.

Availability/Location ~It is predicted that in the near future the demand for art directors will increase in advertising but decline in publishing. ~Art directors are needed all over the world but are mainly located in large cities such as New York City, Los Angeles, London, Paris, and Milan.
