How to make HOCO FLOWERS: SCHS StuCo

You will need: scissors pipe cleaners or zip ties assorted color tissue paper

Unfold paper once. Cut it in half, through the middle. 5 6

Check all the sheets of paper and cut any folded edges that are still connected, so that there is a stack of several individual pieces that are the same size. They should look like this. 9 10

Unfold and re-stack the sheets, neatly Unfold and re-stack the sheets, neatly. Extend the stack, vertically in front of you. Fold along the first line going over, then fold along the second line going under. Repeat, going back and forth until the paper is completely folded—like you’re making a fan. Cut two small triangles in the middle of the folded paper; one on each side. The small cuts will help enable You to adjust the petals, later! 19 20 21

Take a pipe cleaner and tie it around the paper so that it fits in between each triangle. Twist to secure. This can also be done using a zip tie. Pipe cleaner becomes the flower stem Tissue becomes Flower’s petals 22 23 They should look like this.

24 It should look like this. Cut the edges to form a slight curve. This will give the petals their shape. You can also cut them in different ways to make different looking flowers. Ex: a long point on each end, like a picket fence 24 It should look like this.

Choose one side of the flower and carefully unfold the first layer of paper, toward the middle. Repeat with each layer until you have completed them all. Repeat with the other side. Adjust petals as necessary. Be gentle! 25

Try . . . combining different colors of tissue cutting the “fan” edges differently for the petals (pointy triangle, big waves, etc.) making different sizes; simply add or remove folds in steps

For medium-sized flowers: Start with two pieces of tissue paper Fold in half, twice—hamburger style. Cut along folds to ensure that you have a stack of individual sheets the same size. Make your “fan-like” folds. Cut Triangles in the middle of the folded strip. Secure in the middle with zip tie or pipe cleaner Cut each end in a shape Separate the pieces of tissue to form petals The smaller the folds, the fuller the final flower becomes!

For LARGE flowers: Use six whole sheets of paper. Fold like a fan, starting on the shorter side. Cut triangles in the middle of the fold. Tie off in the middle with tie wrap or pipe cleaner Shape ends of folds (round or pointed or scalloped) Gently, separate tissue to form petals Adjust, as necessary
