Personal Digital Devices Lesson 1 GCSE ICT Personal Digital Devices Lesson 1

Unit Objectives This unit has a focus on digital devices that can be used in a number of environments and situations. You will investigate how digital devices like mobile phones, cameras, GPS and entertainment systems are used in everyday life and how this has an impact on daily life. Looking the features of these devices you will be able to decide what are the most suitable devices for people with specific needs and how to match devices to different target audiences.

Lesson learning Outcomes LO1: Recall what digital devices are and be able to name multiple. LO2: Identify what digital devices allow people to do in everyday life and what factors people consider when choosing a device. LO3: Apply knowledge to demonstrate why people pick and use certain personal digital devices.  

Starter an electronic device which can be portable and has the potential to combine computing/ICT with internet/networks. A personal electronic device which has the potential to combine computing/ICT with internet/networks.

What personal digital devices do people use in everyday life? Mobile Phones: Basic phones, Smartphone's, Specialist phones Personal Computers: Desktop, Laptop, Netbooks, Tablet computers. Digital Cameras and Camcorders Games Consoles Home Entertainment Systems: TV’s, Projectors, DVD Players/recorders, Blu-Ray Players, Personal Video Recorders, Set-Top Boxes, Media Stations, Sound Systems, Digital Photo Frames Personal Media Players: Audio player, video player, portable media center, E-book readers Satellite Navigation: Sat-Nav, Specialist Sat-Nav (for walkers and cyclists)
