Tried to eliminate CCP & Red Army– his main rival Leader of China during WWII vs Japan & was viewed as 1 of the big 4 (Stalin, Churchill, Roosevelt) Stored arms given to China during WWII for later Civil War with the CCP Lack of popularity compared to CCP & lost war & fled To Taiwan where the West viewed him as leader of China until mid 1970’s Mao Zedong (1893 – 1976) Took over control of China after the CCP’s defeat of The Nationalists in 1949 Mao represented the peasants (China’s version of Karl Marx’s proletariat (Industrial working class) Mao turned China into a Totalitarian State with heavy use of propaganda (Little Red Book) Mao had Three Revolutionary Goals: 1. 2. 3.
