There are currently 2 coursed offered at Cole Sports Medicine is offered in Texas high schools to give students an inside look at the world of Sports Medicine. There are currently 2 coursed offered at Cole Sports Medicine I (2 semesters, 1 credit) Sports Medicine II (2 semesters, 1 credit)

Sports Medicine I In this course, the student is offered fundamental knowledge about the sports medicine field. The following topics are covered. Professional settings Terminology administrative duties legal liability and insurance fitness and health nutrition and supplements protective equipment emergency situations blood borne pathogens wound care athletic psychology fundamental anatomy & physiology injury recognition treatment, prevention Rehabilitation Concussions non-sport related injuries youth athletic injuries.  

Sports Medicine II This course must be taken after the student has completed sports medicine I. Lots of studying is required as students must learn anatomy and physiology in order to understand injuries. Various taping technique rehabilitative techniques advanced anatomy of muscles Neurology and other areas strength and conditioning emergency planning vital signs spine boarding and emergency transport legal matters

Student Trainer Cole High School student trainers attend practices and games throughout the school year. As a student trainer, they get an up close view of what happens in sports regarding injuries. The hours for this are long and demanding but it’s an experience that very few get to have. I will be letting kids know later on about student training for next year. If you’re interested, make sure to stop by this room and tell me sometime.

I want to be a doctor, nurse, physical therapist, surgeon, pediatric nurse, paramedic, or a military medic…. If some of these describe you, then you may want to consider joining the health science curriculum plan here at Cole! We will prepare you for a future in healthcare.

The CTE program in Texas schools is designed to prepare students for various careers in life. We are fortunate to offer these here, as many schools in Texas do not! We currently offer Principles of Health Science (2 semesters and 1 credit.) Health Science Theory- (2 semesters and 1 credit) Practicum in Health Science- (2 semesters and 2 credits)

Principles of Health Science- Course #1 In this course, the student is taught fundamental knowledge about the healthcare field. Some of the topics included are: History of healthcare Structure of health care Careers and their details Professionalism Safety Medical math Legality and ethics medical terminology Fundamental anatomy and physiology Human growth and development Career specific skills.

Health Science Theory Course #2 This course is to be taken after the student has completed Principles of Health Science. This course builds off of what the student learned in Principles of Health Science to offer a better understanding of how the healthcare world functions. Leadership Communication Ethical and legal Employability skills and professionalism Safety and government regulations CPR/AED and First Aid Infection Control Strategies for the prevention of disease Body Systems Structure and Function Therapeutic and Diagnostic Occupationally Specific Knowledge and Skills

Practicum in Health Science- Course #3 Next year, we plan on offering practicum in Health Science. Students who have met the following requirements will be eligible for health science practicum: 1. Must pass Principles of Health Science 2. Must pass Health Science Theory 3. Must have a great behavior record, no failed courses, and be in good standing with Mr. Trevino and other teachers. This course includes on/off base clinical rotations where students will get real life experience in different healthcare settings.

This program is intended to prepare you for a future in healthcare. Lots of current healthcare professionals went through programs like this.
