The Structure of Persuasion Click through the power point to get the basics

First: What does it mean to persuade and why do we use it? What is it? To persuade is to cause someone to think or do something through argument. Why? To get what you want! First: What does it mean to persuade and why do we use it?

The Persuasive Essay Is also called an argument The purpose of the persuasive is to cause someone to do or believe something This is a type of expository essay – so you will be explaining You explain your reason for what you want your audience to believe or do

Like all formal essays there are three parts Introduction Body Conclusion

The Introduction The Thesis – of course The Assertions The Context This time the thesis is your call to action – what do you want your audience to do or believe The Assertions This time the assertions are the points you are going to use to make your audience do or believe The Context Any background or extra information to support your call

The Extra Paragraph In the persuasive there is a paragraph that does not appear in the expository essay. This paragraph can also be used in the informative essay. It is the history paragraph Provides background information Provides the history of the topic Gives the context for your argument
