Who is the 1st President of the U.S.? George Washington. President from 1789-1797 – warned against the development of rival factions in the government. Why do you think Washington would do this?

Strength of Government Democratic – Republicans Federalists Limited power – states/local control. Strong government that can keep everyone together.
