Christmas in England

Christmas is a Christian holiday that celebrates the birth of Jesus Christ. Most Christians celebrate Christmas on December,25th.

People in England decorate their homes with tinsels, bells, candles, wreaths, and angels.

The Christmas tree is one of the main symbols of Christmas.

The Christmas tree became popular in England in 1841 when Queen Victoria's husband, Prince Albert, brought it over from Germany and put it in Windsor Castle.

There are a lot of coloured lights in the streets There are a lot of coloured lights in the streets. People hear sounds of bells and Christmas carols everywhere.

People send Christmas cards to relatives and friends.

Santa Claus also called Santa, Father Christmas in Britain is an old man in a red suit.

Many children believe that Santa Claus arrives on Christmas Eve in the sleigh pulled by the reindeer and brings presents.

Children write letters to Santa Claus Children write letters to Santa Claus. They tell him what presents they would like to get.

The Advent calendar is a special calendar which is used to count 24 days before Christmas. Every day children take small gifts out of the little boxes with a number of the day.

On Christmas Eve children leave out something for Santa to eat or drink and a carrot for the reindeer.

Some children hang up stockings, so Santa Claus can fill them with sweets, fruit and other small gifts.

On Christmas Day children pull christmas crackers.

On Christmas Day the Queen gives her Christmas Message to the nation at three o'clock in the afternoon.

The traditional food is turkey, Christmas cake, Christmas pudding, mince pies.

On Christmas Day in the evening people sing carols together.
