2 Every year in December in Britain people celebrate the birthday of Jesus Christ. That is why we call this time of year 'Christmas' - we celebrate the 'Mass” (the birth). Christmas is a wonderful time, bringing families and friends together.. Most people are on holiday in Britain and stay at home with their family on Christmas day What do we celebrate?

4 The symbols of Christmas The symbols of Christmas. Christmas Tree Рождественская елка  The tradition to decorate the Christmas tree appeared in Germany. English queen Victoria liked the idea to decorate a fir tree, and in the 19 century this tradition came to Britain. Now all British family decorate the tree with toys, ball, sweets. And this tradition became popular in many countries.

5 Decoration of the House Many British families live in the houses, so when Christmas comes they beautifully decorate their houses and flats.

6 (Stocking) Чулок для подарков  In Great Britain children believe, that Santa Claus put presents in the stockings.

7 Свеча (Candle)  Candle is one of the Christmas traditions. People light candles when all family get together for Christmas dinner.

9 Carols. Рождественские песни (хоралы)  Carols are special Christmas songs. It is very important tradition in Britain. People sing them in churches and in the streets.

10 Candycane Рождественский Леденец  Parents give children candy canes for Christmas. The candy is made as letter J, because name Jesus starts with this letter.

11 Ginger Cookies Имбирное печенье  Ginger cookies is traditional food for Christmas. Children put these cookies on the fireplace for Santa Claus.

12  Santa Claus or Father Christmas, is the legendary figure who brings presents to good children on Christmas Eve. Santa Claus is white- bearded man wearing a red coat and a hat, red trousers, and black boots. He travels on the 8 th flying reindeer. He has helpers - magical elves who make the toys. 13 Boxing Day It is usually celebrated on 26 December, the day after Christmas. In this day people open their Christmas presents and make visits to their relatives and friends.

14 Christmas Dinner. For Christmas dinner people eat turkey, potatoes and green vegetables. Then they have the Christmas pudding. At five o'clock it's time for tea and Christmas cake.
