What is Connotative Meaning? Connotative meaning refers to a meaning that is implied, not exactly the dictionary definition, or denotative meaning. For example: “Ugh…he is such a dog!”

What is Connotative Meaning? A dove implies peace or gentility. Home suggests family, comfort and security. Politician has a negative connotation of wickedness and insincerity while statesperson connotes sincerity. Pushy refers to someone loud-mouthed and irritating. Mom and Dad when used in place of mother and father connote loving parents.

Negative Versus Positive Meaning Some words may have a positive or negative connotative meaning. Our society, cultures or personal experiences can create specific meanings that are good or bad. POSTIVE NEGATIVE Youthful Disabled Leadership Qualities Childish Crippled Bossy
