Denotation: dictionary definition of the word. “Chicken” denotes a domestic fowl (bird).

Connotation: the thoughts, feelings, and images associated with a word. “Chicken” can connote food and satisfaction.

Connotation: the thoughts, feelings, and images associated with a word. “Chicken” is also a multiple-meaning word. It can connote fear and cowardice.

Denotation: Where a person lives at any given time Connotation: Home: cozy, loving, comfortable. House: the actual building or structure Residence: cold, no feeling Dwelling: primitive or basic surroundings
