Darlou Gams Nationally known landscape painter

Darlene Gams: Professional/Personal Highlights I graduated with distinction from Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, CA.  I worked as an illustrator as well as a game artist before transitioning to fine art.  My work is collected nationally and internationally. I have two beautiful kids and one awesomely handsome husband!

Where do you live & what does your family like to do? We live on the seacoast of New Hampshire within walking distance to the ocean Summers are spent at the beach Winters are spent skiing Both my husband and I love art, so we spend as much time as we can at museums and art galleries

Family, business, travel, hobbies? We were lucky to be able to do quite a lot of travel before our children were born, spending time in Germany, Wales and Ireland. We also did a whirlwind tour of the continent with stops in London, Vienna, Venice, Paris and about a dozen other great cities. This was an amazing experience and one that really opened my eyes to the world around us. Plus the food was fantastic.

More re: family, business, travel, hobbies. I have been fortunate enough to have my work meet most of my hobby needs, but I am a political junky and try to stay ahead of current events as much as possible. Between that and trying to raise two well-adjusted children my time is pretty much taken up.

What are you good at? What do you suck at? I hate social networking, sorry Facebook, therefore I suck at that pretty bad. Don’t even get me started on twitter. (Editor’s note: Obviously, Darlou is an exceptionally good artist. She is also apparently a good wife and mother, and many of us know her to be a good friend and a good person overall. What else is there that is really all that important in life?)

Who was your favorite high school teacher? My most influential teacher was Whitney. (Editor’s note: No big surprise, huh?)

Was high school worth it? High school means a lot of different things to different people. Most of us survive it to one degree or another and use it to make our lives better. At some point, when we move past it all, hopefully we can start to make other peoples’ lives better.

Darlou’s Work: Artistic Approach With her illustration experience as a foundation, she uses the figure and the landscape as a canvas to explore color, design, shape and texture. Influenced by tonalists Inness and Eaton, Darlou adds a contemporary perspective, weaving color and light to create a modern interpretation of the landscape.

Darlou Gams: Artist’s Message “I am inspired by the nature of light as an endless subject matter, both in landscape and the human form. Its ever changing quality is a lone constant that creates variations subtle and dramatic. My goal is to capture the beauty of that light, not simply a picturesque scene, but something much more intimate and personal.”
