THE SOLAR SYSTEM by Hunter There are 8 planets in our solar system, Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune. The solar system formed about 4.6 billion years ago. The solar system includes the sun and all the objects that orbit around it due to it`s gravity.

The Sun The Sun is at the middle of our solar system. The Sun accounts for 99.86% of the mass in the solar system. The energy created by the Sun`s core is nuclear fusion.

Mercury A year on Mercury is 88 days long. Mercury has a molten core. Mercury is the second densest planet.

Venus

Earth The mass is 5,972,190,000,000,000 billion KG. The distance from the sun is 150 million kilometers (93.2 million miles.) The rotational period is 23.9345 hours. The orbit distance is 149,598,262 KM.

Mars

The Asteroid Belt The asteroid belt contains 566,000 asteroids. The asteroid belt is a disc shape in between orbits of Mars and Jupiter. The asteroid belt was discovered in 1801.

Jupiter

Saturn

Uranus

Neptune

Dwarf Planet Pluto Pluto is -369 degrees Fahrenheit. Pluto is 3.67 billion miles from the sun. This planet has 5 known moon`s

Asteroid Asteroids have many different shapes and sizes. Asteroids are made of rock in space. There is an asteroid named Gaspra.

Comet A comet has a long tail. Comets hit planets before. Comets and asteroids are alike.

Moon There are 181 moons in our solar system. The moon has moon phases. Moon light reflects off of water.
