Why this module is useful! It gives students the ability to: Construct a referenced business report based on secondary research Develop personal, teamwork and leadership skills Generate a Portfolio in preparation for obtaining an internship Become familiar with Recruitment Processes: CV, Cover Letter, Interviewing, Teamwork assessment Assessed by 2 areas of Coursework: Employability Development: 50% of TMM Team-working and Leadership:50% of TMM

Research Report (Draft 7 Oct Final 23 Oct) Team-working & Leadership Event (Bramley Lakes) 29-31 Oct 1-3 Nov 4-6 Nov Coursework 1 Coursework 2 Interview & PDP (Weeks 9-11) BUS4A2 ASSESSMENT OVERVIEW

Employability and Development: Coursework 1: COMPONENT 1: Write a researched business report: company/ role/ candidate analyses: (worth 50% of CWK 1 marks) COMPONENT 2: Attend a simulated internship interview with your seminar teacher, bring your PDP: Must include: Belbin self-profile; Copy Research/Report; CV; Cover Letter; Can also include copies of Certificates, References, Letters of recommendation etc.

Component 1: Researched Business Report – Key Points Cover page with an informative title (indicating focus of report) Table of Contents page (showing where all sections can be found) Main Body of Report: (900 words) 1. Terms of Reference (who by/to/purpose/date) 2. Procedure (primary or secondary research? Generic source type, where can full details of sources be found in your report?) 3. Findings 3.1 Report referenced facts about co/internship role 3.2 Report referenced facts about the candidate from their Belbin profile 4. Conclusion (summarising the facts reported in the Findings) Recommendations (what should the candidate do to develop skills etc to make themselves successful in gaining the co.internship role discussed (suggest 5) 6. References (a separate page listing all research sources used) Use Harvard Referencing! Write in 3rd Person! Be Professional!

(Component 1: Researched Business Report - Continued) Appendices An Appendix is a final section in a report where additional (not essential) documents can be placed to assist the reader. Items/documents should be individually labelled as Appendix 1, Appendix 2 etc. Include the following at the end of your report: Appendix. 1: Internship advert Appendix. 2: Belbin profile/extract Appendix 3: CV

Component 2: Interview with PDP – Key Points: Interview: Attend a mock internship interview with your seminar teacher Approx 15 mins Date/Time/Location will be arranged by your seminar teacher Professional attire Focus on internship role within the company you have chosen Questions about: the role/co/you/your PDP info Prepare a 60 second pitch! Have a final question ready! Your PDP must contain CV, Cover letter (both focussed on chosen co/role) Belbin profile, Copy Research Report You will be assessed on: Knowledge and coherence of responses Body language, communication skills, interaction with interviewer etc Your PDP documentation

Component 2: Interview with PDP (key points cont’d) Curriculum Vitae A CV is a marketing document – not a list of everything you have done! Focus on the skills and experience your target employer is looking for. The readers should be able to identify those skills and experiences within a 20 second scan! Your Name as the heading Your contact details (inc ‘Linked in’ ?) Professional Profile: USPs, aspirations… (ie what are your current skills, where do you want to be?) Education: Most recent first. Don’t forget BA (Hons) degree, languages? Major? Experience: Most recent first. (work, charity etc…) use STAR stories…Situation/Task/Action/Result! Languages/Skills Interests

Component 2: Interview with PDP (key points cont’d) Cover Letter One page of 4/5 paragraphs Your contact info Addressee and Company Info Dear Mr Stevens? Introduction: who are you, why you are writing’ where did you find the vacancy you are applying for…. Why you? Evidence how you meet requirements of job with examples that match your skills to their needs Why this job/industry/company? – show you have done research and you understand the role, co culture, competencies. Conclusion: Leave a favourable impression, show enthusiasm, next steps towards interview availablity. Yours sincerely Signature!!

Team-working and Leadership: Coursework 2: Attend the 3 day residential ‘Team-working and Leadership Event at Bramley Lakes (100% of CWK 2 marks) You will be assessed on skills including: Teamworking Leadership Communicating/listening Presenting Business decision-making Task handling
