What is Health. -A state of well being. What is Wellness What is Health? -A state of well being. What is Wellness? -A positive whole health approach, which includes your, physical, intellectual, spiritual, emotional and social well being.

Life Expectancy What is life expectancy? - The measure of average number of years a group of people are expected to live. Timeline of United States 1990: Life expectancy was 45 years Today: Life expectancy is 75 years Future: Life expectancy will be over 100 years

Health Behaviors Which Include: Sleeping 7-8 hours Using medically prescribed medicine only Maintaining a healthy weight Eating breakfast daily Avoiding the use of alcohol and tobacco Getting regular exercise

Heredity The Biological passing of traits/genes from parents to children Just because your parents “have” something does not mean you will, but it does give you a better chance (ex. History of cancer or diabetes in your family) There are many ways to help prevent your chance of getting a disease that runs in your family.

Health care services Preventing Illness is easier than curing disease. BUT HOW????? Regular trips to the doctor. (ex. Yearly physicals) Regular trips to the dentist. (ex. 6th month or yearly cleanings)

Physical and Spiritual wellness Physical Wellness The health of your body Achieved through exercise, proper nutrition, preventative medicine, and avoiding abuse substances Spiritual Wellness Personal matter involving values and beliefs that provide a purpose in our lives Finding meaning in life events, demonstrating individual purpose and having the ability to be compassionate towards others
