5 Physical Health Physical Health is measured by what you DO as well as what you DON’T DO. Involves the condition of your body Gives you energy to perform daily activities Helps you avoid injuries Physical activity: Playing sports Hiking Aerobics Swimming Dancing Taking a walk

7 Mental/Emotional Health
Your ability to solve problems and handle the daily events in your lift Feelings and thoughts Accept responsibility In more control of your decisions and feelings Measured by the way you think and express your feelings. THINK POSITIVELY Focus on good things in your life: Friends, Family, and activities you enjoy doing. Feel overwhelmed??? – TALK, TALK, TALK Knowing when to ask for help is a sign of good mental/emotional health.

9 Social Health Social Health- how you relate to people at home, at school, and everywhere else in your world. Communicating clearly How well do you get along with others? Can you work through problems with others peacefully? Are you a good listener? Good social health means communicating well with and having RESPECT for family, friends, and peers. Also means building RELATIONSHIPS with people you can trust and who can trust you in return. coach, counselor, dean, close friend

12 What is WELLNESS? Five Categories of Wellness PHYSICAL HEALTH-health of your body achieved through exercise and proper nutrition. SOCIAL HEALTH -refers to relationships with others. Your ability to make friends and cooperate with others. MENTAL HEALTH -refers to the ability to learn and grow from your experiences. EMOTIONAL HEALTH -this is achieved through awareness and acceptance of your feelings and self-image. ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH -refers to an appreciation of Earth and what we can do to protect/preserve it. Striving to live your life to its fullest potential, by acting in HEALTHY ways to prevent unnecessary ILLNESS. A state of well-being or balanced health over a longer period of time

13 Factors that Affect Health (Can and Can’t Control)
CAN’T control-heredity, age, gender, race CAN control-exercise, watch weight, manage stress, don’t smoke or drink.

14 What Can I do to Improve MY Physical Well-Being???
Get a good night’s SLEEP (minimum of 7 hours). b. Maintain healthy EATING habits. c. Engage in PHYSICAL activities on a REGULAR basis. d. Schedule regular MEDICAL check-ups.

15 Why Do I Want to Maintain Wellness??
To give myself an improved quality of LIFE. b. To strengthen my IMMUNE system. c. To improve my ability to control and manage STRESS. d. To improve my CARDIOVASCULAR conditioning. e. To gain and keep a more POSITIVE outlook on life.

16 What is physical fitness?
a. Physical Fitness is your body’s ability to exercise, play and work without tiring easily. 1. One’s strength, stamina and flexibility. b. It is made up of skill related components and health related components.

17 Major Health Related Components of Physical Fitness
a. Cardiovascular Endurance-your ability to maintain an activity over an extended amount of time. b. Flexibility-your ability to move joints in a wide range of motion c. Muscular Strength-your ability to lift heavy objects. d. Muscular Endurance-the ability to perform a high-intensity activity for a long time. e. Body Composition-low body fat and lean muscle.
