Playing out of the back-developing the techniques Organization Passing and receiving focus 15 yd. square Groups of 5 with Two balls One player each corner and one in the middle Ball one is passed around the outside of square Have ball 2 in the middle just dribbled around to start Ball two is now passed into a new player and followed Change direction of outside ball with a pass to the front foot Coaching points Communication or awareness Check to receive at an angle Open body shape Coach the stages of passing technique Pass to front foot 1st touch out of feet Awareness of other ball If ball is passed to front foot change direction Receiving and running with the ball focus The ball is run with along the cone sides of the area The ball is passed across the none cone sides If you add another player/coach add in a 2nd ball Add in a cone to dribble around in the middle so players receive dribble and then dribble to beat Check to receive Head up Use laces to get ball out of feet U10- Speed of play Combine all three activities in any way that you can Ball passed around with checking Ball passed from in to out and followed Ball run with on the outside Looking and preparing

Playing out of the back Organization Area 30x40 with a 5 yard safe zone in the middle of the field 3 teams of 3 – 2 goalkeepers Safe zone has two counter goals at each side 3 cones are placed in the central area of the field 1. Behind the goal 2. On the edge of the penalty area 3. In the middle of the safe zone The ball is passed into the goalkeeper of the Blue team and 1 red goes to try and win the ball back and go to goal. The blue team try to get into the safe zone by Dribbling through the wide gates Passing to the coach (who is the midfielder) If blue breaks out they pass to the white goalkeeper and 1 player pressures If red team scores they change places with the defending team and try to break out Vs the Blue Team Once players establish the habits needed to get out Start practice from a pass back to the keeper – see across Allow another player into pressure the ball Once in safe zone allow players to either dribble in or wait to get support in attack Finish with 4v4 game with one playing midfield for both teams Coaching points Team Shape – wide players check out wide Central players check on the opposite side of the central cones forming a central triangle Awareness of pressure Awareness of outlet -coach or gate Coach in the flow the Technical side- passing- receiving or dribbling Coach the goalkeeper to put the ball on the floor to play out Speed of play –quick to hit out Attacking principles of play Width/ depth and penetration Play the way you face Central players receive with an open body shape Coach transition Defending with a tight shape and compress the area Transition into attack by changing the shape into a big shape and hitting out Advanced Start from goal kicks and free kicks G D D D C D D D G G D D D C D D D G White defender faces their own goal and is forced to play back and get out through the wide goals
