Aim: What is Government? Do Now: What does the government do at Cardinal Spellman High School?

Describe a Republic Government A republican form of government is a type of government in which the citizens of a country have an active role in the affairs of the government, and the government is not headed by a hereditary ruler such as a king.

What is a Democracy? government by the people; a form of government in which the supreme power is vested in the people and exercised directly by them or by their elected agents under a free electoral system. 2. a state of society characterized by formal equality of rights and privileges.

Difference between a Republic & Democracy? By definition, a republic is a political unit governed by a charter, while a democracy is a government whose prevailing force is always that of the majority. They are no more alike than an apple and a banana, and yet they are often used interchangeably.

What Is Communism? a theory or system of social organization based on the holding of all property in common, actual ownership being ascribed to the community as a whole or to the state. Controlled by a totalitarian state dominated by a single and self-perpetuating political party.

Fascism—What is that? A system of government marked by centralization of authority under a dictator socioeconomic controls, suppression of the opposition through terror and censorship and typically a policy of belligerent nationalism and racism. Oppressive, dictatorial control.

Who Started Communism? Karl Heinrich Marx (1818-1883) and Friedrich Engles (1820-1895) founded the modern Communist movement to promote the value of the common man, and to end the suffering of individuals under the rule of aristocracies and Tyrants

Who has a Communist Government? Yes, China is a communist country. Founded in 1921, the Communist Party of China has ruled all of mainland China since they won the Chinese Civil War against the Kuomintang.

Where is there a Fascism Government? Fascists seek to organize a nation on corporatist perspectives, values, and systems such as the political system and the economy. Fascism was originally founded by Italian national syndicalists in World War I who combined left-wing and right-wing political views, but gravitated to the political right in the early 1920s.

Who is this?

MUSSOLINI

MUSSOLINI Mussolini became one of the main figures of the Axis powers and, on 10 June 1940, Mussolini led Italy into World War II on the side of Axis. In late April 1945, with total defeat looming, Mussolini attempted to escape to Switzerland, only to be quickly captured and summarily executed His body was then taken to Milan where it was hung upside down at a petrol station for public viewing and to provide confirmation of his demise.

SEPARATION OF POWER

DIVISION OF POWERS The Legislative branch of the federal government is responsible for making the nation's laws.  Members of the Senate and the House of Representatives share the responsibility of balancing the needs of constituents with those of the nation.

DIVISION OF POWERS  The President is head of the Executive branch of government, which is responsible for enforcing laws.  The President provides leadership by setting goals and developing policies. .
